Why Staying Rooted in Truth Changes Everything
May 07, 2026
Most women aren’t actively walking away from truth.
They’re just slowly being pulled by louder voices.
In Episode 18 of the Grounded Growth Podcast, Nicole and Stephanie talk about what happens when we stop anchoring ourselves in biblical truth and start building on shifting opinions, cultural pressure, and emotional reactions instead.
Because when truth isn’t our foundation, everything starts to feel unstable — even if we can’t explain why.
Worldly Wisdom vs. Holy Wisdom
Nicole opens with a distinction many women feel but rarely name: the difference between worldly folly and holy wisdom.
Worldly wisdom tells us to follow our feelings, define our own truth, and trust ourselves above everything else. It sounds empowering, but the problem is that our feelings change. Our perspectives shift. And if we’re building our lives on something that constantly moves, we’re going to have a very unstable foundation.
Holy wisdom, on the other hand, calls us back to something that is unchanging — God. It invites us to anchor ourselves in truth that doesn’t shift based on culture, emotions, or circumstance.
And the drift away from truth isn’t one big decision. It’s the small compromises over time that slowly pull us in a different direction.
What Happens When Truth Isn’t the Foundation
When truth isn’t anchoring us, the effects show up internally before they show up externally.
Confusion replaces clarity. You start second-guessing your values, your mission, your vision, and your purpose. Comparison and insecurity creep in because without truth, we look outward to figure out who we are instead of looking to God’s Word.
Nicole shares how she allowed her emotions to drive her decisions, especially during seasons of overwhelm and burnout. When we’re taking on so much with limited capacity, it’s easy to let the easiest path take over instead of staying rooted in what’s true.
Stephanie adds that the emotional exhaustion of not being grounded in truth is real — because there’s no solid ground to stand on.
What Truth Actually Produces
Nicole breaks down four things truth produces in our lives:
Clarity — When you know what’s true, you have a reference point for every decision, every thought, and every challenge. Even in uncertain seasons, truth gives you enough light for the next step.
Stability — Life has many seasons of change, but if the foundation is truth, you can’t be completely swept away. Think of it like an anchor — you can still feel the waves, but you won’t be carried away by the tide.
Mindset protection — The thoughts we allow to take root in our minds eventually produce fruit in our lives, for better or worse. Truth acts as a filter, helping us know where we belong and replacing lies, fear, and comparison with what’s actually true.
Confident decisions — When you’re rooted in truth, you can make decisions without waiting for perfect conditions or everyone’s approval. Truth gives you a foundation to move from.
Simple Ways to Stay Rooted
Nicole and Stephanie share practical rhythms for staying grounded in truth:
Start your day with truth before input. Before you check your phone or take in anyone else’s thoughts, intentionally start with something true — a scripture, a prayer, even one grounding statement.
Limit negative or distracting influences. Take an honest look at what’s constantly pulling your attention away from truth. Create healthy boundaries around what you’re consuming.
Replace assumptions with facts. Many of the things we worry about are based on assumptions, not facts. Pause and ask: Is this actually true? Or am I making an assumption?
Build reflection habits. Take a few minutes at the end of the day to reflect on what you believed, what was true, and where you may have drifted. Reflection isn’t about perfection — it’s about staying aware.
The Faith Layer: Building on the Rock
Matthew 7:24 — Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
We are always building something with our lives. The question isn’t whether we’re building — it’s what we’re building on. When you’re rooted in truth, you’re not shaken the same way. People notice when you live differently because of the assurance you have in your faith.
Truth protects your identity. It reminds you who you are when everything else feels loud. And it keeps you grounded when emotions fluctuate.
